Give her the fruits of her hands: let her works praise her in the gates.

Proverbs 31:31

The Valiant woman strives to fulfill her God-given purpose of womanhood. She is Godly, hopeful, hardworking, honest, and generous, among many other excellent qualities. But after all that work, what is there in store for the Proverbs 31 woman? There is surely a reward for her virtue! To conclude this brief skim of Proverbs 31:10-31, I would like to focus on the praises of the Valiant Proverbs 31 woman.

The praises of the Valiant woman fall in a poetic cascade of glory at the end of Proverbs 31. The author is done writing simply about what the model woman does or is. Finally, we see the fruits of her striving toward perfect womanhood.

Her children rose up and called her blessed: her husband, and he praised her. Many daughters have gathered together riches: thou hast surpassed them all…Give her the fruits of her hands: and let her works praise her in the gates.

Proverbs 31:28-29 & 31

She is blessed! She is praised! She has surpassed all others! But let not men only be her judges. Her works themselves give testimony to the truth in these praises of her glory. She has not strived in vain. The household she has clothed and fed rises up to laud her. The husband she honored honors her. The tasks at which she labored, sometimes seemingly fruitlessly, have produced a hundred fold, and her virtues praise her in the end.

Is this too good to be true? The story of the Valiant woman is not a fairy tale like the story of Cinderella. This promise of glory comes straight from the Bible – from the very mouth of God! The reward of the Valiant woman is not too good to be true; it is so good because it is true. If we strive toward Godly womanhood, God will give us the reward of the Valiant woman. Our good works will praise us “in the gates” indeed: the gates of Heaven.

…she shall be praised.
