How many self-help guides are out there telling one how to “be you”? Girls, if you are looking for a guide to finding “who you really are” or rather who God calls you to be, try Proverbs 31:10-31! These twenty-one verses of the Old Testament are a collection of the attributes of the ideal woman – the woman of God.

To begin, a little information about this chapter of the Bible.

The chapter is attributed to King Lamuel, whose identity remains uncertain. It seems Lamuel’s mother had some wise words for him, and he wrote them down in the book of Proverbs. The first part of the chapter (verses 1-9) relates wisdom on being a good man and king. I will not be covering those words, though they are good advice. I will be sharing with you the second two-thirds of the chapter, which surmises the attributes of the ultimate woman.

An important part of Proverbs 31 is that it applies to all women and girls, of every calling or walk of life. If you are called to be a mom, Proverbs 31 is a great place to find information on how to be a holy wife and mother. Perhaps God wills you to remain single? Well, Proverbs 31 still applies, as it gives excellent advice on how to live virtuously and well even outside of marriage. Or are you being called to be a religious? A woman in the religious vocation can use all the wisdom of Proverbs 31 in her state of life. It seems Proverbs 31 is the chapter every girl and woman needs to read!

In the future, I will be making posts based on Proverbs 31:10-31. They will cover some of the main topics in these twenty-one verses relating to Godly womanhood. I hope you will follow me as I share with you the examples of good and holy womanhood, as set before us by God through His Word in the Bible.
